WHY SUPPORT THE OCRP LEGAL DEFENSE FUND?
Oakland County Commissioners unanimously approved the triennial budget for fiscal years 2012-14 on September 22nd.
First, however, Republican Commissioners had to vote down several amendments proposed by Democrats. If you need concrete evidence on why you should support the OCRP Legal Defense Fund, consider the following proposals:
$85,000 for an additional veteran counselor
$100,000 to add a Youth Assistance Caseworker
$500,000 for road improvement
$250,000 for the creation of the Oakland County Land Bank
$25,000 for a pilot program to allow the use of "Bridge" cards at county farmers' markets
This adds up to almost $1 million that the Dems wanted to add to the budget. This is just a small example of what would happen if the Democrats gain the majority on the Commission.
The proposals were voted down on a 15-10 party line vote.
